Hello, my name is Shayna, and welcome to this meditation for women focused on offering rest to your body during menstruation.
In Chinese medicine, the menstrual phase is associated with the season of winter—a time of hibernation, deep rest, and renewal.
It is essential to carve out even a small moment to consciously slow down and connect with your body as it moves through this natural process of shedding.
When we allow ourselves to rest and slow down, we may feel more emotions, and we may sense more energy moving within us.
During this meditation, if you feel emotions arise, instead of judging them, I invite you to simply let them be part of your practice.
Your body is shedding, and this release can happen in many forms.
The more you allow yourself to feel it all and surrender to stillness, the more your body works with you.
This can result in:
Less cramping
Less pain
And, most importantly, a calmer, more peaceful mind
So, take a moment to thank yourself for being here.
The Power of Rest
Scientific research highlights the importance of rest for physical recovery and mental well-being.
In ancient traditions, menstruation was seen as a sacred time for retreat and renewal.
The body is working hard during this time, which can lead to heightened sensitivity.
Some traditions even viewed menstruation as a time of deep psychic wisdom and spiritual connection.
These moments of inner awareness and intuitive opening are only truly available when we consciously slow down.
Giving Yourself Permission to Rest
Today, we will honor this wisdom by giving ourselves the permission to rest.
